YANGTZE CRUISE (UPSTREAM)

Day 1: Arrive Yichang
Fly to Yichang and transfer to the luxurious cruise ship. (D)

Days 2-4: Yangtze Cruise
You cruise the famous Yangtze River as it winds its way through the spectacular scenery of the Three Gorges. For many people, to cruise along this famous river is a lifelong dream. At 6300 km, the Yangtze is the third longest river in the world, made famous today by its spectacular Three Gorges and the controversial Three Gorges Dam. The Three Gorges stretch for 193 km, along which are many historic sites such as Baidi City, cliff inscriptions, suspended coffins of the Ba Tribe, tombs of the Han Dynasty (prior to 220 AD) and battlefields of the Three Kingdoms period. Where the river widens, terraced fields spread out up mountain slopes, interspersed with orange orchards and tea gardens. The mist-shrouded landscape of the Yangtze Gorges is as lovely as a traditional Chinese painting. (All meals on board)

Day 5: Arrive Chongqing
Disembark at Chongqing and on arrival enjoy an orientation tour of this enormous modern city on the banks of the Yangtze. Chongqing is now the industrial and commercial hub of an independent municipality with a population of over 30 million. Apart from the city sights themselves, the city is best-known to most visitors as the starting or finishing point of the Three Gorges Cruise (B/L)

Day 5: Chongqing – Chengdu
Drive to Chengdu. Visit some of the city’s famous Tea Houses and in the evening enjoy a colourful Sichuan Opera Performance. (L/D)

Day 6: Depart Chengdu
This morning there is a visit to the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base in the northern suburbs of Chengdu to see a large number of the endangered giant pandas, both adults and cubs. It is best to go early in the morning when they are feeding and most active. The smaller red pandas can also be seen here. In the afternoon transfer to the airport for your onward flight. (B)
